{"id":3214,"date":"2023-02-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pl-asapbio.local\/asapbio-joins-nasa-tops\/"},"modified":"2025-03-28T21:30:52","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T21:30:52","slug":"asapbio-joins-nasa-tops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/asapbio-joins-nasa-tops\/","title":{"rendered":"ASAPbio joins NASA TOPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ASAPbio is thrilled to join the Transform to Open Science (TOPS) initiative, a NASA project \u201cdesigned to rapidly transform agencies, organizations, and communities to an inclusive culture of open science.\u201d TOPS is also part of US White House\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/ostp\/news-updates\/2023\/01\/11\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-announces-new-actions-to-advance-open-and-equitable-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Year of Open Science<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Quoting the TOPS <a href=\"https:\/\/nasa.github.io\/Transform-to-Open-Science\/year-of-open-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>, the initiative\u2019s four goals are to:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop a strategic plan for open science<\/li>\n<li>Improve the transparency, integrity, and equity of reviews<\/li>\n<li>Account for open science activities in evaluations<\/li>\n<li>Engage underrepresented communities in the advancement of open science<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How ASAPbio is contributing<\/h3>\n<p>ASAPbio\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/asapbio-2023-roadmap\">2023 roadmap<\/a> is already aligned with several Year of Open Science Goals, but we will focus in particular on #3, to \u201cdevelop a plan or pilot a program to <strong>reward and account for open-science activities in evaluations and incentives.\u201d <\/strong>In late 2022, we collaborated with EMBO and HHMI to host <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/recognizing-preprint-peer-review\">Recognizing Preprint Peer Review<\/a>, a workshop to promote community consensus and support for preprint peer review and to create funder, institutional, and journal policies that recognize both preprints with reviews, and reviews of preprints.
