Got an aptitude for writing or showcasing visual art? If this sounds like you, we\u2019re looking for you! Our preprint science communication competition seeks to find new ways to engage and reach out to the general public.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/fellows\">ASAPbio Fellows<\/a> Tomas Aparicio, Ksenia Kuznetsova, Allan Ochola, Piragyte-Langa and Claudia Vasquez, the competition aims to help improve communication and understanding about preprints among broad audiences, including those beyond the scientific community. Raising awareness of preprints is crucial to helping the public understand the latest scientific discoveries affecting their lives. Science communication can play a positive role in supporting the public\u2019s understanding of preprints and their place in the scientific process.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The competition \u2013 What do we look for?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We welcome submissions from anyone with an interest in science and preprints, including students, researchers, librarians, editors, or science communicators and members of the public. There are no restrictions related to role, career stage, or country\/location.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions must cover scientific work reported in a preprint, or the concept of preprints and their role in science communication. We encourage participatory and interactive formats of all kinds. There are three categories for submissions:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Poetry<\/li>\n<li>Visual art, including animation<\/li>\n<li>Videos&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some suggested topics you could explore in your submission, please do not feel limited by these ideas though!<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is a preprint?<\/li>\n<li>What is the difference between a preprint and a journal article?<\/li>\n<li>What are the purposes of preprints? Why do researchers use preprints?<\/li>\n<li>Preprints and peer review<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also find inspiration from ongoing initiatives such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencesketches.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science Sketches<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s in it for you?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The winner in each category will receive a $300 USD award. The three finalists in each category will also be featured in an ASAPbio blog post and on social media.<\/p>\n<p>The winning entries will be selected by our judges:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Joana Carvalho, Communications Officer and Science Illustrator, Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia, Portugal<\/li>\n<li>Liam Holt, Associate Professor, NYU Grossman School of Medicine, US and co-Founder of Science Sketches<\/li>\n<li>Dasapta Erwin Irawan, Lecturer in hydrogeology, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia and co-founder of RINarxiv<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to enter the competition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Submit your entry via this <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeScyzHVC7W2wlLrdSaKwJdJVn_iYtPN9wKRRm3ClhSReiXtg\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">form<\/a>.
