{"id":3443,"date":"2020-07-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pl-asapbio.local\/biopreprints2020-report\/"},"modified":"2025-03-28T21:37:07","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T21:37:07","slug":"biopreprints2020-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/biopreprints2020-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Open for feedback: #bioPreprints2020 meeting report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In late January, ASAPbio, in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebi.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EMBL-EBI<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sr.ithaka.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ithaka S+R<\/a>, hosted the <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/building-trust-in-preprints-together\">#bioPreprints2020 workshop<\/a> to improve the discoverability, reuse, and interoperability of preprints in the life and biomedical sciences. After the meeting, attendees formed working groups to establish draft recommendations for preprint metadata, withdrawal and removal definitions, data availability statements, versioning, and surfacing review events in the context of preprints.<\/p>\n<p>Today marks the release of the meeting report, <a href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/8dn4w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cBuilding trust in preprints: recommendations for servers and other stakeholders.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best practice recommendations<\/h3>\n<p><em>The following is a summary of major recommendations from the report.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preprint servers<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a permanent identifier (PID) for each preprint version; link all versions together.<\/li>\n<li>Allow authors to indicate data availability (and provide links to data deposited elsewhere) when submitting a preprint, make this information discoverable by humans and machines, and transfer this information to journals as part of preprint-to-journal transfer workflows.<\/li>\n<li>Adopt standardized definitions of withdrawal (original preprint full text remains) and removal (original preprint full text removed).
