The community of peer review innovations at <a href=\"https:\/\/reimaginereview.asapbio.org\/\">ReimagineReview<\/a> encompass a wide range of initiatives that may encounter new and unique challenges in bias prevention.<\/p>\n<p>To enable discussion about identifying and addressing bias in peer review in these new contexts, we\u2019re hosting a ReimagineReview community call on <strong>Friday August 16th 2019 12:00 E.T.<\/strong> featuring:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dr. Jennifer Raymond (Professor of Neurobiology at Stanford University and eLife Reviewing Editor) is an author of a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/400515v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> recent study<\/a> on gender bias at eLife.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Misha Teplitskiy (computational social scientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan) studies peer review bias arising from professional network connection, as reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0048733318301598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this study.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The presentations will be followed by an interactive discussion.<\/p>\n<p>To join this community call, <strong>please register by filling out <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSexBW4T_HLG5gPUwF77HGiUhrEGP1tcwKYz-lspGGjL5SyTCg\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>this form<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meet the ASAPbio ScholCommLab scholars&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/preprints-visiting-scholars-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3868\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/preprints-visiting-scholars-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/asapbio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/preprints-visiting-scholars-2-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asapbio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/preprints-visiting-scholars-2-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><figcaption>Preprints visiting scholars Mario Mali\u010dki and Janina Sarol<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We\u2019re supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholcommlab.ca\/people\/janina-sarol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janina Sarol<\/a> (PhD student in Informatics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scholcommlab.ca\/people\/mario-malicki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mario Mali\u010dki<\/a> (Postdoc, AMC and ASUS Amsterdam, Netherlands) with 3-month visiting scholarships with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scholcommlab.ca\/research\/preprints\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Preprints Uptake and Use<\/a> research team at ScholCommLab (Simon Fraser University and University of Ottawa, Canada). Their project seeks to explore the question of \u201cwho is preprinting?\u201d by consolidating, analyzing, and mapping data documenting the adoption of preprinting in specific communities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Read about <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/scl-project-first-update\">their findings so far<\/a>: preprint metadata can be messy!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preprints can be submitted to REF2021<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/preprints-valid-for-ref2021\">Preprints are valid outputs<\/a> to submit to the UK national funding assessment exercise, Research Excellence Framework (or REF).
