We explain the benefits of such a service in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/benefits-of-a-cs\">blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yesterday, 11 funders endorsed a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/principles\">principles<\/a>&nbsp;for establishing a Central Service for preprints, and ASAPbio released an <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/rfa\">RFA<\/a> to invite potential suppliers to apply to provide it.<\/strong> These developments were covered in articles in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/heavyweight-funders-back-central-site-for-life-sciences-preprints-1.21466\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nature<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/news\/2017\/02\/debate-erupts-over-plan-create-another-online-destination-biology-preprints\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-scientist.com\/?articles.view\/articleNo\/48454\/title\/Funders-Back-Centralized-Bio-Preprint-Server\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Scientist<\/a>, and more information can be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wellcome.ac.uk\/news\/preprints-were-supporting-calls-central-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wellcome Trust<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insight.mrc.ac.uk\/2017\/02\/13\/preprints-whats-in-it-for-me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MRC<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/datascience.nih.gov\/preprints\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIH<\/a>&nbsp;websites. We welcome any thoughts or reactions through comments on the web or by email to jessica.polka (at) asapbio.org.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re also continuing our engagement with scientific societies. <strong>On February 23, we will hold a <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/society-town-hall\">Scientific Society Preprint Town Hall<\/a> meeting at NAS in Washington, DC<\/strong>&nbsp;to discuss how preprints can benefit scientific societies in the future. The meeting will feature perspectives from scientists, funders, and societies that are innovating with preprints. <strong>Please encourage your scientific societies to attend!<\/strong> More information is available by emailing jessica.polka (at) asapbio.org.<\/p>\n<p>In other exciting news, the list of funding agencies supporting the use of preprints as evidence of productivity is growing: since December, HFSP, Wellcome Trust, MRC, and HHMI have <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/funder-policies\">announced new policies<\/a> on allowing these products to be listed in grants and reports.
