Read more about ASAPbio <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/about\/\">here<\/a> to learn more about our vision, values, and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are looking for new Board members who can help us deliver on our <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/asapbio-our-new-strategic-direction-from-2025\/\">updated strategy<\/a> and complement the perspectives of existing Board members. We particularly seek community leaders with expertise in the areas below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Institutional initiatives to support rewards and recognition for open research communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Culture change and advocacy for open science especially in the context of the life sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Innovations in scholarly communication such as preprinting, open peer review, and publish-review-curate models<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We represent a global life sciences community and welcome applications from colleagues worldwide. Additionally, we intend to appoint at least one early career member to the board in this cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/iJXfB71hTZ7p6fyK8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply now<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About ASAPbio<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ASAPbio (Accelerating Science and Publication in biology) is a scientist-driven nonprofit working to promote innovation and transparency in life sciences communication through the use of preprints and open peer review. We envision a life sciences communication ecosystem where all papers and other outputs are shared rapidly and without restrictions on access or reuse, and open and constructive exchanges take place on research products at all stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ASAPbio seeks to embody the following values and priorities through our projects, activities, and community work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focus on researchers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Openness, equity, inclusion, and accessibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect, empathy, and collaboration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experimentation and adaptation to evidence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our present activities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Convening<\/strong> meetings and workshops in support of our <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/asapbio-our-new-strategic-direction-from-2025\/\">current goals<\/a>, in particular rewards and recognition for open research communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Community building<\/strong> through the ASAPbio <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/fellows\">Fellows program<\/a> to empower researchers to catalyze conversations about preprints and open peer review<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Advocacy<\/strong> for more open practices, such as decoupling publication from evaluation via the <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/understanding-the-publish-review-curate-prc-model-of-scholarly-communication\/\">publish-review-curate model<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/life-science-research-funders-should-recommend-or-require-cc-by-licenses-for-the-research-they-fund\/\">requiring open licenses<\/a> for research outputs, or supporting open peer evaluation through <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/focus-areas\/peer-review\/crowd-preprint-review\/\">crowd preprint review<\/a> activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Connecting and partnering<\/strong> with other organizations, for instance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/preprint-policy-framework\/\">Preprint Policy Framework<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintaining community resources<\/strong> such as our <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/focus-areas\/preprints\/preprint-resource-center\/\">preprint resource center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/focus-areas\/peer-review\/peer-review-resource-center\/\">peer review resource center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/asapbio.org\/different-methods-of-identifying-preprint-matches-yield-diverging-estimates-of-rates-of-preprinting\/\">analysis of rates of preprinting<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expectations for Board Members<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Board members are involved in strategic planning, participate in decision-making, and engage the community to help connect ASAPbio to contacts who can help us achieve our mission of accelerating the open communication of life sciences research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board meets four times per year via Zoom for approximately two hours; attendance at three out of four of these meetings per year is required. No travel is required. Board terms are for two years and can be renewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board votes by email throughout the year and communicates through email and Slack. We expect all board members to join one or more committees and devote ~2 hours per month to ASAPbio activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We do not have any expectations of financial contributions, nor are board members compensated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/iJXfB71hTZ7p6fyK8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>application <\/strong><\/a>consists of several short-answer questions. <strong>Applications will close on September 5th<\/strong>, and we expect to inform candidates of the outcome by the end of October, 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ASAPbio is seeking several new members for our Board of Directors to support our mission to drive positive change in science communication.
